Born and raised in Elgin, Illinois, when Emmy was 14, a fire destroyed her parents rental building. Emmy was asked to redo the garden apartment. This was her first, but not her last, experience with interior design. Growing up, she continued to work on interior projects and on her parent's rental properties.After Emmy graduated from the Illinois Institute of Art with a degree in interior design, she consulted for a furniture company and for her husband's interior remodeling company.
